A.N. Other Fragrances

A. N. Other was born out of a belief that there’s a purer way to craft and sell luxury fragrances. A way that makes signature scents accessible by investing in what goes into the bottle, not what goes inside the pages of a glossy magazine. No expensive boutiques or lavish adverts. Just Parfum grade scents created from the finest ingredients and sold directly to the people that love them.

Toby worked with A.N. Other by creating an online story orbiting around the concept of how scent evokes strong memories of the past.

Los Angeles is a city where people go because they believe anything is possible there. The embodiment of the ‘American Dream’. A land of ambition and success.

For a city to have such qualities is, I think, quite rare and beautiful. Perhaps that’s why so many flock there each year to pursue dreams that, if left in the mind for too long, fizzle out via disappointment or conformity to a system that provides a comfortable life.

Since being a teenager, I always dreamed of going to LA. The whole idea gave me an inner thrill. For me, LA was a place of luxury. A different life that could be experienced by anyone. It also made me feel more ‘adult’ - imagining that one day I could be travelling between London, New York and Los Angeles for my job. Something about it made me feel like that would define personal success.

Fast forward ten years and my wife and I were waiting in line at Heathrow airport on an otherwise very average January afternoon to board our flight to LA for the first time. I was beyond excited, ready to finally experience the place I had fantasized about for the past decade.

As we descended through overcast clouds, my eyes found the glowing city lights of the eastern suburbs, shortly followed by the blurry lights of runway 24L at LAX.

I seem to experience the same feelings every time I arrive in a new city, of distance and being far away from my comfortable day-to-day bubble. This happens especially when I travel for work. I get so hyped before going, but then when I close that hotel room door I can’t seem to escape the reality of loneliness and distance. The moments where you appreciate how life is made wonderful by the people who surround you.

As I woke at 6AM the following morning, those feelings were quickly replaced by the smell of fried eggs and fresh coffee being made a few steps away in our Venice Canals Airbnb kitchen. Two of our close friends were travelling with us for our road trip, and those familiar breakfast smells and the sounds of my friends’ voices brought comfort to my world. LA was outside, and boy, was I ready to meet her.

Water Journal Vol. 2

In collaboration with friend and writer, Tim Schilling, I photographed a piece for Water Journal volume 2. We headed down to Dorset to photograph the coast line and to gather inspiration for the copy which would compliment the photos.

Here are a few of my favourite shots.

Carl Hansen & Søn

Through spring 2016 I was commissioned by Danish design masterminds, Carl Hansen & Søn to take pictures of their London showroom. I focused on details of products in the showroom as well as some wide angle shots to give an impression of the space.

Here are some of my detail shot favourites.

Melanie Giles

Bath is the home to a healthy handful of independent business'. The variety of these business' is what makes Bath so interesting to look around and enjoy.

Melanie Giles is a collection of Somerset based hair and beauty salons. Their Bath salon was one of the first to open and has recently undergone a total refurbishment.

I was asked by Melanie Giles to take pictures of the new space once refurbishment had finished. Therefore I'm happy to share with you a selection of my favourites.

Månafossen

During late June I was in Norway to photograph a wedding and I managed to get some time in the beautiful mountains in an area called Månafossen.

I was here in 2015 for a winter wedding so seeing the contrast in the landscape between deep Norwegian winter whites and summer greens was a really great experience. Enjoy some of my favourite snaps.

A few of these photos are available for purchase in full resolution of my Creative Market Store.

May Selects

Ive been Art Directing a new project throughout May which publishes in June and I wanted to share some of my favourite pictures from this project without any context.

This project is a whole combination of pictures, design and video; so I just wanted to share some of my favourite pictures from one of the studio sessions.

Society Café Oxford

Society Cafe and I have built a great friendship over the past year and when I heard they were opening in Oxford, I had to go and see the place for myself. I was not disappointed in the slightest.

Here are a few of my favourites; focusing mainly on the interior.

Drift Magazine

Throughout March 2016 I worked with New York based coffee magazine, Drift. Not only was this a fun project to photograph but Im a huge admirer of the magazine its self. So this was a real honour to work with some great people.

I ran a 7 day Instagram take over introducing the city of Bath where I live and a breif synopsis of the coffee culture here.

Below are a few shots that from the project.

Featured coffee shops: Repack Espresso, Society Cafe & Cascara.

Beauty / Darkness

I was recently approached by a good friend of mine who is studying fashion in London to create a conceptual piece to showcase her most recent designs. So this project is really something that came out of a place of fun with no budget, client or time limitations. Which for me, was such a breath of fresh air. Hope you like the stills and short abstract video.
